The Almighty Institute is a product of years of experience working with music retailers and record labels. Labels and distributors constantly told us how they find it impossible to keep up a comprehensive retail database since priorities and personnel are always changing. So we built this ourselves. The Almighty database required substantial resources and was almost a year in the making, and the end result speaks for itself. Our mission is to better facilitate communications between record labels/artist managers and music retail. The music marketplace grows increasingly diverse each year and the retail landscape is changing rapidly. As well as still accounting for 85% of total U.S. prerecorded music sales, retail is still an integral part of developing new artists, and now more than ever it is imperative that record labels work more efficiently with retail. Labels now have significantly less staff to work retail than they did in the 90s, and the continued shift of sales to the mass merchants inevitably means more attention is focused on those accounts. Our goal at Almighty is to provide tools to allow labels to give proper attention to all accounts that make sense for a given release. We are well aware that in the post-Napster music industry, labels will only pay for services that will:
A)
increase
sales Our directory and our programs are designed with that intent in mind. Subscribers can obtain full access to this information for far less money than it would cost them to build or maintain it in-house. The Almighty Database makes day-to-day working with retail more efficient, and new outlets to carry your music can be unearthed and targeted immediately. Our expertise is useful for releases of all genres – from Black Metal to Hip-Hop to Indie Rock to Christian. We cover the smallest independent shop to the biggest Wal-Mart and currently list approximately 12,000 retail outlets. The Almighty Institute has grown out of our retail marketing programs ISIS Listening Stations (founded 1995) and Almighty Lighted Display (founded 1999). Both programs continue to have successful track records exposing new music to indie store consumers. ISIS Listening Stations are in 82 stores and Almighty lightboxes are in 50 locations.
